Wild Spirit - South Africa

This project was such a pleasure and is one of my favourite and proudest creations.

Coming together with a selection of my finest friends we are forming the weaver birds, our mission to experiment with weaving sculptures and installations from raw trees around the world.

Our material of choice at the moment is Wattle (Acacia pynantha) This is a particularly brilliant material to use in South Africa due to it being an invasive alien species to the environment originally brought over from australia in colonial days it play havoc with large areas of South Africas biodiversity.

We came to our friends at Wild Spirit Backpackers to provide art, vibes and installations for their new years festival Afrika Grow it also gave us an excellent opportunity to play with our new favourite medium together. We collaborated to make two leaves as an arch for the entrance to the festival which has since been used as a centre piece for a wedding, a variation of light installations made from roots, leaves and twigs and The Onion Of Khoinarnia.

The Onion Of Khoinarnia was made as a piece of permanent land art and as a chill space for people to lounge about by their stunning natural swimming pool and enjoy the view above the forest.
