When Tremors moved to their fantastic new office in Netil House, they asked me how I thought their beautiful and luminous two-level space could be improved. I decided to focus on the mezzanine, which is intended to be used as a meeting space and after-party area.

The existing walls and general space were quite industrial and, while this worked downstairs in the office area, we decided it would be nice to make the mezzanine more homely, comfortable and inviting. To do this, I clad the back wall with old pallet planks and built them a long hanging table from the same reclaimed materials, which runs along the far edge of the room.

This space was designed as an additional working area for up to 3 people, allowing the company to rent out hot-desking spaces. With this in mind, I sunk brushed aluminium plug sockets and USB charging points into the surface.

However, the desk also doubles as their in-house DJ booth, as I designed the desk to be hollow and have the appropriate electric supply to be able to accommodate a full Dj set up with two vinyl decks, a mixer and two CDJ’s. As the wooden floor of the mezzanine moves a bit, I hung the desk from chains so that the needles on the vinyl decks would not bounce while people dance.

This was a very exciting project for me, and the start of something I would like to pursue further.
